If you live in the San Francisco area, you laready know that Craigs List is one of the most important allies you can have when looking for employment, a place to live, or even love.
Anyone who claims the net is cold and impersonal should check out "The Best Moving Sale Ever In The History Of The World (pictures)" I'm taking notes... Tuesday, Apr 09, 2002
I've got a bit to say about time travel, including a personal anecdote, but I'm busy at work at the moment, (yeah, sure, call me skeezy. Bite me. ;-) so here's a little reading to preface the post. I encourage you to read it, so we can all discuss after class!

I love SFGate. Hard-hitting news reporting interspersed with fluffly poignant editorialism. Today's gem: Asteroid to obliterate life on Earth in 878 years. Kill it for the Children.
It brings a tear to my eye. Monday, Apr 08, 2002
I'm taking a day off work today, just to have a nice 3-day weekend. Nothing really planned, just a day out of time...
Got a couple things on-deck for Fury, but right now I need to go to Karen's and take care of the sickie. Check back later! Oh, and if you're one of the folks who feel that none of the listed cheeses were skeezy enough, you're more than welcome to add your own cheese to the mix. Dig deep in the fridge and see what you can find! Happy Monday. Enjoy your extra hour of light! Monday, Apr 08, 2002
So I don't talk about my family too often 'round here, but I'd like to say a little about my sister, Susie.
Susie's a teacher in Los Angeles, teaching Biology to 8th graders, and in addition she teaches on the Homework channel, where 70,000 kids see her for about an hour each week. I've seen tapes of her shows and I'm proud and amazed at what she can do, on live TV no less. Last week she did a 20-minute presentation on using crickets to tell the temperature, or to be more specific, she did a presentation on how the real world differs from the ideal scientific method. I think this is her best episode, and though I don't expect anyone to watch the whole 20 minutes, there are some really funny bits for those of you who do. Enjoy! Friday, Apr 05, 2002
So naturally the part of my bio that's sparked the most attention is my cheese disclosure and subsequent 'skeezy cheese' amendment.
What is a skeezy cheese? It's different for everybody, and since this is a democracy, I'd like to see what you think is a skeezy cheese, and so without further ado... First, get a grip on the skeezy clip from Buffy: The Musical. Good. Now I've taken the liberty of venturing to Bev'n'Mo to document a good selection of cheese, and I put the question to you. Take a look at the selection and judge: Am I SKEEZY or NOT? Later there may be a taste and smell test to confirm the web audience results. Thursday, Apr 04, 2002
From a conversation about the upcoming Underblog:
j3ssajune: the whole WEB is like crack. Blogging is just... really good crack. Ahh, Underblog. Y'all are gonna love it. Wednesday, Apr 03, 2002
At long last: My bio...

The two kids sitting next to me got on the wrong train. They meant to go to, anyone? Anyone? That's right. Bakersfield. Well, Bakersfield to catch the bus to Los Angeles and then the train to San Diego. Now they're screwed because they have to get off at Hayward, take the next train back to Jack London (in an hour) and then catch the next train for Bakersfield, which I think comes late that afternoon. They won't get to San Diego 'till tomorrow.
Overheard:
And who says optimism's dead? It's a shame Conductor Gary didn't give one of his solliliquies today (though he did say it wasn't the Bakersfield train). We're stopped on the tracks right now. I don't have the heart to tell them that the train that's about to pass us by is the one back to Oakland. Wednesday, Apr 03, 2002

Kevin left his ancestral homeland of Los Angeles in the Fall of 1991 to attend UC Berkeley. After four leaves of absence, he completed his bachelor's degree in Cognitive Science in the Spring of 2001. During his sabbaticals he was a reviews writer for MacWEEK magazine, a seeded developer for Apple's Newton MessagePad, a webmonkey, a perlmonkey, web technical lead for Segasoft, Petstore.com and Hewlett-Packard, an invited member of Microsoft's Internet Advisory Board, and the webmaster and technical lead for Levi Strauss and Co. (where, incidentally, he co-invented the online wish list in 1997). One of AOL's first beta-testers in 1987, Kevin now prefers Yahoo!, Google, and small software foundries where the love for the product pays better then VC dollars. Kevin is now 94% dark-side free, and tries not to be evil. Labeled 'usability guru' by New Yorker magazine and 'miscreant' by Wired, Kevin enjoys creating personal projects that play off the Internet's nascent communication metaphors. Most of Kevin's online exploits pass unnoticed (and unfinished), while some have made the front pages of the Wall Street Journal, Harpers Weekly, and CNN.com. An 11-year Berkeley resident, Kevin is an avid ballroom and Irish dancer, and tries to write a thousand personal words a day. His current goals include learning both kiteboarding and the mysteries of love. Kevin's secret wish is to live in a spacious geodesic dome in the forest, with an attached sprung wood ballroom for entertaining, and an easy commute to the city. He also likes cheese. |
