Wow. SURVIVORblog has completely exploded in the last 24 hours, into the soap opera so many people hoped it could be. Rather than recap it here, I'll point you to Jake's recap, or better yet, see for yourself.
Anyhow, it'll all be over in a few days and I'm sure I'll find plenty of things to fill the void. I have a long list of stuff to do. Some of it's even on a computer... Thursday, Oct 05, 2000
Did anyone out there record the season premiere of the West Wing last night? Karen and I each tried to, but her tape ran out at 40 minutes and I only recorded the first hour. I didn't know it was a two hour episode.
If anyone has a copy, I'd love to borrow it. If you're someone I don't know, here's a great time to introduce youreslf! Thursday, Oct 05, 2000
Couldn't help but notice that now they put a little smily face on the green one and a sad face on the red one. Ahh, the power of change...

Last week I got listed with BlogHop, a metaBlog list where people can rate weblogs they visit.
The problem is: Is green good, or is red good? Holy affordances, Batman! Tuesday, Oct 03, 2000
I recently bought a copy of Flash 5 and I've been thinking about potential subtle uses of flash on this site and others (subtle? Flash?). Anyhow, check out Microsoft's Xbox site. sure there's the glossy hoggish flash in the center of the page, but check out the sidebar navigation...
Note: I'm not saying this is a good thing, just an interesting thing. At least the technology is mapped reasonably well to the intended viewing audience. It's not exactly the sory of thing AOL or Yahoo should do... Tuesday, Oct 03, 2000
I'm not a huge baseball fan. I mean I like the game, but I don't go watch it very often. Still, there's something pretty cool about both Bay Area teams hosting playoff games tomorrow against the two New York teams. It's like our own mini-olympics, minus the drug testing...

Reading today's User Friendly, I now, inexplicably, wish I still had a dot-matrix printer. There's something about being able to see your code on one long sheet of paper that just doesn't carry over well to flipping pages. Maybe it's that it doesn't seem right to split a function across several pages, or maybe it's because coders are proud of their work, and it's harder to wallpaper with single sheets.
Hmm. I just may be on a mission... Monday, Oct 02, 2000
And just when I thought I knew what a word meant:
The Word of the Day for October 3 is:
Heck, I guess that's why I subscribed to the list! Monday, Oct 02, 2000
Wish me luck on my midterms, 'k?

I've been thinking a lot today about relationships past, present, and future... One thing that email has over memories or photographs is that when you read an email from years past, you feel exactly what it was like to have written it, or to have read it. Going through my own archives (I'd sooner destroy paintings than delete email) always makes me maudlin, because no matter what's going on in my life now, no matter what good things there are that there might not have been before, the email always brings out the good things that were, and often can never be again.

I'm learning that every relationship is different, not just like different flavors of ice cream, but like entirely different foods, or different experiences altogether. Some of my strongest relationships have been based primarily on sex, and others haven't been based on sex at all. In some the satisfaction is found teaming up to take on the world, and others happiness lies in our detachment from the world, and spending time investigating each other introspectively. They're all different, all beautiful, and unexpected, and all powerful. I think that's what I miss the most. Relatinships of any sort fill you with something. I don't mean power over others, but more a sort of vitality that, when absent, can put me into a sort of hibernation. I don't really know what I'm getting at. I just wanted to get it out. |
