wow. You work so hard for something, you put it out there, and you just hope it gets the attention it deserves. Well, SurvivorBlog2 won the coveted 'Most Banal Weblog" award in the 2001 Anti-Bloggies.
To commemorate this event, Ernie has made today's immunity challenge to Write the acceptance speech. Peter has come up with a real winner, and gives it to us in MP3 and RealAudio for your listening pleasure. Congrats, fellow Sbloggers! Monday, Feb 05, 2001
Free internet service provider Juno changed their membership agreement with subscribers yesterday. Now, according to the News.com article, they now have the right to require their users to leave their computers on all the time, and automatically download applications that will run on the CPUs, in effect creating a distributed supercomputer.
Funny, I don't see people who won't pay for dialup internet access as having very fast machines, but given sufficient numbers, we may find out the trillionth digit of Pi faster than ever, or at least find intelligent life in space. Sunday, Feb 04, 2001
Don't you love it when you're about to make something and you find that someone's already done it? Well okay, sometimes not, but the Usability Toolbox is a really nice topline summary of techniques for all phases of usability design.
There are a few gaps, most notably designing by persona and using an analysis of existing metrics to assist in the iterative process, but for the most part this is an excelent resource, with offsite links in each entry for additional information. Sunday, Feb 04, 2001
Simple and silly, this is one of the more interesting pages I found today, looking through referrer logs.
Well, maybe not as curious as this gallery. Saturday, Feb 03, 2001
I'll admit that, as horrible as it seems, I'm going to have to watch at least part of a game, just to make sure it's as bad as I think.
For example, this is wrong on so many levels... The only thing that could make this game more disturbingly compelling is if the winners get a trip to Temptation Island with the opponents cheerleaders. Saturday, Feb 03, 2001
Somehow, ladybugs love my apartment, and I have no idea where they come from. Almost every day for the last week I've found a ladybug inside my window, and this morning I saw two (maybe that's the answer...) Even more common are ladybugs on the other side of the glass. I wonder what they're after...
I apologize for the slow day. I'm catching up on school work I forsook for my CMU application. I've got a couple interesting things to share with y'all, coming along in the next few days. Also I'll have new AOLiza convos up tonight or tomorrow. Have a great weekend! Friday, Feb 02, 2001
Like a fire and forget boomerang, I mailed off my CMU application today. I'll get a response in early March, but until then I'm going to put it out of my mind. It'll be such a vacation...

Just a quickie: I was trying to find the 'accepted' way of formatting biblipgraphic references to web pages and found an offical source. The interesting bit to me is the addition of 'retrieved on' information, acknowledging that pages on the web can evolve over time, or disappear entirely, and so the reference format specifies the temporal dimension as well. Nifty, though resulting in longer entries...

Well, it's pretty much final: After getting out of the hardware business, ReplayTV couldn't find anyone to license their player, and now they're being bought out for a song.
Meanwhile, TiVo, which managed to lose $89 million on $1.4 million in revenues last quarter, is sitting pretty on top of alliances with the networks, as well as some rather dubious partners. Wednesday, Jan 31, 2001
It's been a long time in planning, but I'm finally officially renaming the Cameo Project as Randompixel. It has its own domain on a machine that will be able to handle the server load when the cameras come online. Until then I have a preview of some of the photos up on the new site, so check it out!
